How to Brew Chemex Coffee at Home

This pour-over style, manual coffee maker is a fancy looking brewing device specifically designed to deliver essential elements of flavor intensified coffee. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • The Chemex brewer
  • Coffee (ground/beans)
  • Grinder (if using beans)
  • Chemex filter papers
  • A kettle
  • Scale (optional)

LET’S GET STARTED

01
Measure and grind
Measure 25g of coffee and grind the beans in a medium coarse setting.

Add Filter and dampen
Place a Chemex filter on top of the Chemex chamber and rinse the filter with warm water to seal the filter against the glass chamber and as well as to heat the brewer. Discard the water.

Add coffee
Add the ground coffee to the center of the filter and knock the brewer to evenly distribute the coffee within the filter.

Bloom
Boil water to 97 degrees Celsius and pour 75ml of water in concentric circles and let the coffee bed pre infuse for 30 seconds.

Finish The brew
After the bloom, pour in another 100ml of water. At 1 minute and 30 seconds, pour 150ml of water. The coffee should drip at a slight fast pace. At 2 minutes and 30 seconds, finish off the brew by adding the remaining water at once. At 3 minutes the coffee should be completely extracted.
